The project was funded by the National Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation (AKKSHI), within the framework of the National Research and Development Program and was implemented during the period July 2024 – December 2025.

The main objective of the project was to improve scientific knowledge on the spatial distribution and temporal dynamics of fires in Albania, as well as to strengthen the information base for managing this risk. Particular attention was paid to the creation and consolidation of a national database of fire events, its integration with risk forecast data, and the analysis of the relationships between recorded events and early warning system signals.

Through the analysis of historical, meteorological and operational data, the project contributed to the development of a methodological framework for assessing the performance of early warning systems, interpreting spatial and temporal patterns of fires, as well as identifying the main factors influencing their occurrence and distribution.

The project results include the creation of a structured database on fires in Albania, the development of indicators for assessing the compatibility between predicted risk and real exposure, as well as the production of scientific publications and valuable reference materials for scientific research, responsible institutions and risk management processes.

The project was carried out by the staff of the Institute of Geosciences (IGJEO), with the participation of the Department of Hydrology and the Department of Meteorology, under the scientific direction of Prof. Asc. Dr. Orjeta (Elbasani) Jaupaj.
