Dr. Zaimi studied Hydro-technical Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Polytechnic University of Tirana. During 2014-2021 he completed his Ph.D. with subject "Hydrometeorology and Floods", Faculty of Civil Engineering, at the Polytechnic University of Tirana.  From 2014 to 2016 Dr. Zaimi was the Head of Hydrology Department at the Institute of Geosciences and from 2012-2021 was the head of forecasting of the National Centre for Forecast and Monitoring of Natural Risks at the Institute of Geosciences, Tirana.

Dr. Zaimi conducts research and application in the engineering of Hydrometeorology, Water Resources, Flood Management, Flood Protection, Flood Mapping, Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (Meteorological, Hydrological, Flood, Geological, Forest Fires), Hydrological and Hydraulic Modeling, Oceanography, Coastal Erosion, River Basin Management Plans, Climate Change Impacts, Irrigation and Drainage, Hydromorphology, Hydropower, Dams, etc.
