The International Seismological Centre (ISC),set up in 1964 with the assistance of UNESCO as a successor to the International Seismological Summary (ISS), is officially collecting, archiving and processing seismic station and network bulletins and preparing and distributing the definitive summary of world seismicity. Under the umbrella of the IASPEI, the ISC always played an important role in setting up international standards such as the International Seismic bulletin and the IASPEI Manual of the Seismological Observatory Practice. ISC maintain and manages the International Seismograph Station Registry (IR), jointly maintained by the ISC and the World Data Center for Seismology (NEIC/USGS), since the 1960s.
